8.623. Reflections on a Tuesday Night

My energy can best be described as ragged. I’m all over the place and moving quickly from one thing to the next with little moments to transition. This is because I am overwhelmed. I long for the days of being simply whelmed. Everything feels so much harder to put together lately. I meant to be ahead of the class building, yet I am designing new material every week–sometimes hours before a class. I guess it means I am trying to make this timely and connected to stuff they care about, but it also means I am running myself down and that is not at all the direction I was trying to head in this semester. I wanted space to breathe and have a life focus. This ain’t that.

There’s not much of a ‘what to do’ here. I have 8 more weeks worth of lessons to prepare along with two more classes I am taking starting next week. I am going to be overwhelmed. I am going to need to find a way to balance all of this stuff along with writing. I can only give it so much of my life. I feel like the writing is the part that took the most heat–that suffered the most as a result of everything else going on. I abandoned the original story for the thesis and this new (old) one I am finally writing, I am not writing, though it is a full novel that needs to be done before May. See, overwhelmed.

Perhaps this weekend I take a step back. I need a day to really collect myself and relax and reload.

Some Thoughts:

  1. Absolutely Bonkers Headline of the Day: “US hits Bank of America with $1.2 billion fine, saying it violated money laundering, sanctions laws” That’s a B. So, what kind of crazy were they really up to, and if that is the fine, how much $$$ was actually moved?!
  2. Kid’s team is ranked 19/25 depending on where you look. Not bad, but on the other hand, they beat two teams that were previously in the top 5/10–again depending on where you look. Why so dang low? It goes back to what coaches have been saying forever. Logos are what people judge. They see a logo and what that logo has come to represent long before they see the talent on the roster or how the team has actually played. They play against the #6 team (everyone agrees on that) this weekend. It is a road game. They have yet to win a road game. Good test. Fair test. It is the best QB they’ll see all season. I’m excited to watch.
