8.618. Reflections on a Thursday Night

On the way to the Observatory after this. It’s pricey, but I haven’t done anything really nice for the eldest in a while and it is what he wants. Its good for us to spend time with him. It’s good to spend time with any of them franchise boys anymore. The fact is they’ve been coopted by the other side to the point where it is harder and harder for us to see us as prime family or even split family. We’ve become secondary; a piece of nostalgia they return to in moments. I don’t like being a bit of nostalgia to my own damn kids. Yes, I realize that yesterday I was working to understand this and I still am, but when your own kids don’t know if they’ll be available for Thanksgiving because they don’t know what they’re mom has planned is a clear sign. As is being left on read when they don’t want to talk about the other parent.

I’m learning to live with a lot of things lately and learning to drop a lot more. I’m not in a position where I am going to try to be someone I am not just to be the kind of person on the other side of this equation who has nothing else but this. I do have more. I have a wife and a career as a writer. In other words, I have a pretty darn good life and that being the case I cannot battle with people whose life is only this and whose only goal is to stay wrapped up in this cocoon of need and adulation for as long as possible and attempt to call that family.

Some Thoughts:

  1. We livestreaming military executions now. What’s happening with this country?
