This is why we can’t have nice things.
The moment I take the time and energy to create some space for myself these kids slide right into the space and start using it as though it is a public space. Now I have to be the heavy and express to them that it isn’t a public space. It’s my new office. So I’m the jerk now because they want to use my account and play on my system. I don’t want to be the jerk. I don’t want to always be the heavy or the bad guy. I don’t want to share space with the kids all the time. Every space isn’t a public space. I don’t understand why that is so hard for people to grasp.
Sometimes you need something that’s your own.
That becomes more important when you’re living with grown kids that are space eaters. So, now they’re in the space playing games and I’m out in the common space watching football. This is even more irritating, because I’m going to need to explain moving forward that I’m holding space for myself , and that makes me the heavy.
It is the only way I can keep something that feels mine.
