Not going to speed test yet again, but I am feeling a little more in my WPM tonight. Strange how that’s become a present thing even outside of the story writing side. It feels like I am looking for ways to gamify my writing, which is to say I am looking for ways to be more excited about my writing. Having abandoned the Justice engine for now and being down to my last Shadowrun short story project for the forseeable future (and of course the two novel pitches, which includes the thesis, and the novella that needs to be rewritten) I am looking for other types of shorts to write. I cannot just be the SR guy and can’t really be the game crossover guy either. I want to branch out. I have fantasy stuff, but I also want to get my real world and near-future and sci-fi stuff locked in a bit too. I have a series of stories in multiple genres I can be writing, yet am not. On top of it all, I have a reading on the 21st and nothing I am even remotely interested in reading for it.
Real talk: what have I finished recently that isn’t SR-related and actually good? This ought to be a challenge I accept and I should be coming up with something new over the next few weeks, because I have a pair of courses I will be taking starting in two weeks, and I am pretty sure one or more is going to demand that I write something. Such is life in the land of the Talis.
Some Thoughts:
- Not for nothing, but the governmental stuff is way way way out of control. What sucks is that the media that these voters who created the problem listen to is never going to tell them about all of the wild ‘fill the swamp’ type madness that is going on. Instead they’ll point to nonsensical issues and claim that this is what is ruining America. I saw a clip of a comedian the other day who hit it right on the nose. He argued that these rural voters and those who are only tuned into a particular version of news haven’t actually seen America. They haven’t traveled around the country to know the places and the people being demonized, so what right do they have to say they know what ‘real’ America is. Only, he was actually funny when he said it. I’m just sad.
- Another week of FB coming up with huge games and huge implications and rankings on the line. The kids are gonna be alright.
