Anything that could go wrong in football outside of injury went wrong in football for the boys and I this weekend. Nobody won. Even the Giants and the Jets recorded losses. This was a full spectrum disappointment. The mid-kid had his worst day as a corner and the youngster watched his HS team commit seven turnovers. You cannot win under those conditions. They didn’t. This was supposed to be a breakthrough weekend for everyone, and it turned into a setback at every level. The chances of the HS team making the playoff have practically vanished. They’ll need to win out and then get some help. I don’t know if it is possible for that. The remaining games look harder given the futility of the offense.
College has it easier. Next week is a winnable game. They’ve come through most of the hardest parts of the gauntlet with only two ranked teams remaining to play in the next 5 games. One of those two was #1 until being defeated 21-10 by the team the boy beat last week. They don’t have to win out, but winning 4 out of 5 is the floor. At least one of the two Dakota teams left on the schedule needs to be beaten to have a chance at making the playoffs. Even then, the future does come down to the boy being able to bounce back and produce a better outcome than this week’s horrid PFF rating.
Football is mental as well as physical and I am concerned about the wear and tear on the mind of a long season with amazing QB opponents. Yet, this is exactly what is required to make it to the next level. You need to show you can perform at a high level. You need to be consistent. This isn’t about one game but about every single rep in every game. Looking at the young mid-kid’s body of work, he has it. He just needs to bring it all the time.
Some Thoughts:
- No headline. The world is straight up bonkers in general.
- Meanwhile, I’m here trying to carve out some writing hours so I can get back to being the best version of myself and setting an example.
- On the last leg of that MFA… Lots to be done and soon.
